She was born in Staunton, Virginia, July 11, 1933, a daughter of Herbert Franklin and Sylvia Callie (Kline) Painter. After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School, she attended Dunsmore Business College in Staunton before marrying the love of her life, Donald James White, on May 26, 1956 at St. Paul's Evangelical United Brethren Church. After Don's service in the Air Force, his career took them to Richmond. Don and Bonnie moved to Charlotte, NC in 1970 along with their two children.
