She was born in Staunton, Virginia, July 11, 1933, a daughter of Herbert Franklin and Sylvia Callie (Kline) Painter. After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School, she attended Dunsmore Business College in Staunton before marrying the love of her life, Donald James White, on May 26, 1956 at St. Paul's Evangelical United Brethren Church.
