Street closures, subway changes set for Brooklyn Half Marathon (2024)

Come Saturday morning, thousands of runners will lace up their shoes and hit the streets of Brooklyn to compete in the 2024 RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon.

The race, which kicks off at 7 a.m., will start next to the Brooklyn Museum, twisting and turning for 13.1 miles past the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, around Grand Army Plaza and through Prospect Park before ending on Coney Island’s iconic boardwalk.

Much like the New York City Marathon, race day in Brooklyn often brings out the very best in New Yorkers, but it can also present logistical challenges for those looking to traverse the city.

The following streets will close to traffic and parking for the race, according to New York Road Runners, which organizes the marathon:

Eastern Parkway, from Grand Army Plaza to Bedford Avenue

  • No Parking: (Eastbound) Thursday, May 16 from 6 a.m. - Saturday, May 18, 11:30 a.m.
  • No Parking: (North Service Road) Friday, May 17 from 6 a.m. - Saturday, May 18, 11:30 a.m.
  • Street Closure: Saturday, May 18 from 12 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

President Street and Union Street, from Classon Avenue to Franklin Avenue

  • No Parking: Friday May 17 from 6 a.m. - Saturday, May 18, 11:30 a.m.
  • Street Closure: Saturday, May 18 from 12 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Washington Avenue, from Eastern Parkway to Empire Boulevard

West 15th Street, from Surf Avenue to Boardwalk

  • No Parking: Friday, May 17 from 12 a.m. - Sunday, May 19, 1 p.m.
  • Street Closure: Saturday, May 18 from 12 a.m. - 1 p.m.

West 16th Street, from Surf Avenue to Boardwalk

  • No Parking: Friday, May 17 from 12 a.m. - Saturday, May 18, 4 p.m.
  • Street Closure: Saturday, May 18 from 12 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The following subway and bus service changes will also be in effect:

  • The MTA said 2, 3, and 4 trains will bypass the Eastern Parkway-Brooklyn Museum station in both directions from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturday. Service along the 2 and 3 lines will resume at the station at 9 a.m.
  • F trains will not run between Kings Highway and Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue and D trains will not run between Bay 50th Street and Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue during that time, according to the MTA.

“Several local and express bus routes in the city will be affected by street closures throughout the day,” the MTA said, adding that riders should visit new.mta.info and check the “Current Service Status” for updates.

New York Road Runners said free shuttle buses will connect with D trains at Bay 50th Street and F trains at Kings Highway.
