Preschool All About Me Theme Crafts & Activities (1)I can’t even begin to wrap my head around the fact that baby girl is starting preschool just like the little guy did. Her birthday was at the beginning of August and we started our Preschool All About Me Theme shortly thereafter.

All About Me is a wonderful theme to start our preschool journey with. It’s the perfect opportunity for baby girl to learn more about her body and herself.

This post is full of quick & easy ideas for an All About Me or Human Body preschool theme that your preschoolers and kindergartners are sure to love! You’ll find STEAM, process art, and even a really cool sensory bin.

A huge thanks toExperience Early Learning (formerly Mother Goose Time)for providing us with their Experience Preschool curriculum for free in exchange for sharing our honest and authentic stories resulting from our personal experiences. It’s been such a huge blessing to us! As always, my opinions on awesome stuff for little kids are 100% my own.

Keep in mind that all preschoolers do things in their own time and on their own terms. What one is ready for, another might not be. Please use your best mama judgement when planning activities for your little kids.

Did I mention that the little guy will be joining in too? He’s technically a first-grader this year, but of course, he still loves a lot of the awesome activities that are included in each month’s preschool curriculum kit.

We adapt as needed to make things developmentally appropriate for both little kids, which this curriculum makes super easy to do!

Each month, we receive four Teacher Guide books and inside each one there’s an introduction that explains exactly what we’re going to be learning about and why it’s important.

Introduction to Week 1: Body Parts

As young children learn to identify body parts and the many ways to use them, they will experience cognitive, physical and language-enriching processes. Young children learn through sensory discovery, which happens by moving through and experiencing the world. As a child moves, he becomes more and more aware of the things he can do, see and explore. Our bodies are our toolkits for discovery. As young children build an appreciation for their bodies, they gain confidence, which motivates them to take learning risks. Nurturing children’s understanding of the self encourages them to grow up with a desire to keep their bodies strong, healthy and safe.

For week 1, our Key Vocabulary words are head arm, leg, hand, foot, x-ray, skeleton, and bone. Our letter is Bb. Phonic words we’re learning include ball and bird. And the Basic Concepts are circle, blue, and kindness.

I love having all of this information right there where I can find it quickly and easily as I plan our homeschool week.

Baby girl learned Bb, which meant that she got to put up the letter on our alphabet tree, which is just a fun extra we do. We did the alphabet tree with the little guy too.

Every time he learned a letter sound, we added the letter until we had the entire alphabet on the tree. It’s been a great hands-on, fun, and engaging way to track their alphabet knowledge.

Today I wanted to share our first day of All About Me crafts & activities.

We are all unique. We look different and have different names, interests, and favorite things. We also share commonalities with each other. Mirrors help us look at our own reflections.

It was a busy day, that’s for sure. I made a point of setting up the daily topic poster and our read aloud the night before, so when the kiddos came downstairs for breakfast they could see what we would be learning about.

The first thing on our agenda for today was the circle time songs and then we talked about our bodies and ourselves.

  • What is your favorite food?
  • What animal do you like?
  • What activities do you dislike?

Baby girl isn’t talking much yet, but the little guy’s always up for having a conversation. So for now, we talk and she listens. Every now and again she joins in. If you ask her about animals, she’ll name a few and tell you what sound they make.

All About Me Community Color

We did some “community coloring,” which was definitely an exercise in patience for the little guy. He wanted to draw a skid steer and she wanted to draw all over everything.

This activity was a great way for the kiddos to work together to create some really fun artwork. We used a large kraft paper roll and set it out on the floor with lots of markers.

Little kids are encouraged to use their favorite colors and draw at the same time while listening to music and then talk about the experience.

Self Portrait Process Art

Our process art activity for today was a self-portrait and we decided to break out the watercolors. Both kiddos had a blast! As a homeschool mama, I love the invitation to create activities that we get to coordinate with each week’s topic.

All About Me Picture Books

The read-aloud for the day was I Am Enough by Grace Byers. We actually read a whole handful of all about me books. The little guy and baby girl enjoy playing quietly while I read aloud to them.

There are so many things they can do, everything from playdough and kinetic sand to building blocks or drawing and coloring.

Reading to your little kids is so important and it’s something that we make a point of doing just about every day. We like to keep all of our theme books where we can grab them anytime we want to sit down together and read.

Mirror Reflection STEAM Activity

This Mirror Reflection STEAM Activity was meant to encourage children to look in a mirror and write or draw what they see. We adapted a bit for my brand new preschooler and talked about and pointed to various body parts instead.

We also sang Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes. You know, because it’s totally a favorite around here.

The vocabulary words that we printed from this week’s STEAM bundle became the little guy’s spelling words, so he and I have been practicing those together as well.

Reflection Color Mixing Art

This was an extra activity that we did with the little guy three years ago. We used salt like you would if you were salt painting and sprinkled it all over the mirror. I gave each kiddo an eyedropper and they shared an ice cube tray filled with colored water.

It’s a wonderful, tractile way to explore color mixing, which is an important skill for preschoolers and kindergartners.

You could totally do this with paper too. And we have. Check out the Salt Painting Activity that we did last September if you’d rather have a keepsake, but I thought considering our topic was All About Me, the mirror would be a fun new twist on an old favorite.

Human Organs Sensory Bin

We did this Human Organs Sensory Activity for Little Kids several years ago with the little guy too and to say it was a hit would be a huge understatement. Obviously we had to do it again with both kiddos.

Preschool All About Me Theme Crafts & Activities (11)
I loved watching baby girl pick out the human organs and line them up along the edge of the sensory table.

This is the perfect activity for introducing basic body parts to little kids. Sensory experiences are an important part of early learning. After all, little kids learn best through play.

Preschool All About Me Theme Crafts & Activities (12)
We had a wonderful first day of preschool homeschool! This curriculum makes it insanely easy to teach your preschoolers at home. Everything is ready to go. I can literally just grab a bag each day and get started, which means less time planning and more time playing with the kiddos.
