What is the AP Chemistry exam format?
The exam format includes 60 multiple-choice questions, and 7 free-response questions. The exam weight is broken down 50% for the multiple choice section and 50% for the FRQ. Students are allotted 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete the multiple-choice section, and 1 hour and 45 minutes to compose their responses to the free response questions. How do I study for AP Chemistry?
You’ve likely covered a lot of material during your course this year, but to get a 5 on the AP exam, it’s important you understand how often each topic shows up. In this course you will participate in practical laboratory investigations to gain a firsthand experience, and utilize chemical calculations to solve a range of problems. What units are on AP Chemistry?
- Unit 1: Atomic Structures and Properties
- In this unit, you will begin to understand the complex makeup of atoms and acquire an understanding of the methodologies scientists use to quantify and classify these fundamental molecular properties
- Unit 2: Molecular and Ionic Compound Structure and Properties
- Within this unit, you will embark on a journey of discovery into the realm of chemical bonding, encompassing a diverse spectrum of bonds. Furthermore, you will uncover how the structural arrangements of these bonds influence the inherent properties of the molecules that come out of this process.
- Unit 3 : Intermolecular Forces and Properties
- In this unit, you will engage in an exploration of the united forces that assemble atoms into the varied states of matter: solids, liquids, and gasses. - Unit 4: Chemical Reactions

- Unit 7: Equilibrium
- Within this unit, you will map out the vaste evolution of chemical reactions, investigating the factors that lead substances to attain a state of equilibrium. Furthermore, you will dive into the complex responses exhibited by systems when this equilibrium is perturbed or disrupted.
- Unit 8: Acids and Bases
- In this unit, you will investigate further into the realm of pH, immersing yourself in the characteristics and attributes of both acids and bases. Through comprehensive exploration, you will gain an understanding of how these fundamental substances interact within chemical reactions.
