All About Me Preschool Lesson Plans - Stay At Home Educator (1)

An All About Me preschool theme is the perfect introduction to school, family, and friends. It’s so important to build confidence, develop a sense of worth, and make connections with our peers and adults.

This theme includes celebrating our similarities and differences, exploring different types of families, and learning to navigate feelings and emotions. Young children can be egocentric (which is developmentally appropriate for their age) so as parents and educators it’s important to spotlight the value and wonder of others and develop some of those social-emotional values, such as empathy, loyalty, and kindness. These wonderful traits all begin with children learning their worth and the worth of others.

We have put together over 15 all about me themed activities and we can’t wait to share them with you! Each activity is described in the post and all bundled together for you in a FREE download at the end! Happy back to school!

Name Practice – Print out the editable name practice sheet. Using alphabet beads, magnet letters, or even cut-up letters on a piece of paper, invite your preschooler to build their name. Then read their name and attempt to identify the letters. If you can spell their name in a sing-song way, it often helps it stick! Then invite your preschooler to trace their name. For more fun, hide the letters of their name around the room and come back to put their name in order.

My All About Me Book – Fold a few pieces of printer paper in half and staple them on the side. Invite your preschooler to create a book about themselves. Invite them to draw their favorite things, foods, places to go, toys. Include family and pets too.

Include real photos if possible. Encourage them to label their pictures with the first sound they hear in the word. Invite them to share their work with family members and have them practice reading the book aloud.

Friendship Playdough – Download and print the friendship playdough characters. These friendship characters allow children to role-play how to make a friend and ways to talk to others, which is especially important in preschool and kindergarten. They can help us model discussion starters and introduce ourselves, along with taking turns and building language skills. You can use these friendship characters or you can use any dolls, figures, Lego characters, or stuffed animals to model how to be a friend with your preschoolers.

I Can Be Anything – Go to YouTube and read the story, I Can Be Anything by Jerry Spinelli. This book highlights the importance of the many likes and dislikes that makes us who we are. After reading, invite your preschooler to go back through the story and decide what pages show who they are.

What other things do they love to do? Or really dislike? We are special and unique just who we are and our personalities and favorites make us all different in the most wonderful ways.
